Potential for Exporting Pineapples, Ornamental Flowers & Foliage, and Lemons from Samoa to New Zealand

The Samoan Market Access Working Group (MAWG) identified three products to be considered by
the Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Program (PHAMA) in terms of facilitating
market access to New Zealand. These included:

Pineapples – Samoa currently does not have market access to New Zealand
Meyer lemons – Samoa currently does not have market access to New Zealand
Foliage (principally dracaena and cordyline) – Samoa currently has restrictive market access to
New Zealand.

The purpose of this study was to determine if the economic benefits arising from obtaining market
access for these products are likely to justify the cost involved. The study involved evaluating New
Zealand market opportunities for the three products and Samoa’s ability to take advantage of these
opportunities.
