Regional trade facilitation and diversification

  • PHAMA Plus assisted the Niue Government to respond to audit recommendations from New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) on Niue’s biosecurity systems that regulate agricultural trade. The Niue Government has prioritised trade of commodities such as fresh herbs, Tahitian limes, green plantain and value-added products and work is ongoing to address regulatory and market access challenges and facilitate trade of these products.
  • An analysis of the horticulture sector was completed to identify potential interventions to strengthen production and supply.
  • PHAMA Plus has assisted local stakeholders to explore commercial providers of planting materials for fruit trees that could be developed in Niue. This work is ongoing and may be taken forward with the Niue government.
