Niue
Agriculture in Niue, a small island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean, is primarily focused on subsistence farming, and the island relies heavily on imported food products to meet its dietary needs.
However, there are a few niche export possibilities that the country can explore to generate income and promote economic growth. Some potential export opportunities exist in Niue’s organic tropical fruits, noni juice, handicraft, seafood products and tourism.
In 2021, PHAMA Plus partnered with the Government of Niue through a Memorandum of Understanding for technical support in Niue under the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER Plus). This was done following extensive consultations with the Government of Niue and local private sector.
Regional trade facilitation and diversification
PHAMA Plus assisted the Niue Government to respond to audit recommendations from New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) on Niue’s biosecurity systems that regulate agricultural trade.
